BFS invertebrate list now available!

August 29, 2009 by Nancy Hamlett

Worms and snails and butterflies, oh my! We now have a first draft of a BFS Invertebrate List available on the website. Many, many thanks to Prof. Jonathan Wright, BFS web intern Maya Nakamura, and Research Assistant Connor Smith for all their hard work in this massive undertaking. The list currently contains 169 taxa, including:

  • 13 snails and slugs
  • 13 beetles
  • 12 dragonflies and damselflies
  • 20 butterflies and moths
  • 26 ants, bees, and wasps

For many of the taxa, we have links to photos, including some taken at the BFS. Here is a sample:

As large as the list is, it’s still obviously incomplete. If you have new invertebrates to add to the list or photos to contribute, please contact either Jonathan Wright or Nancy Hamlett.
