Estámos buscándo participantes para nuestro estudio sobre la familia Latina!

  • ¿Cómo me pongo en contacto?

  • ¿Quién puede participar?
    • Estamos invitando a adolescentes Latinos entre 14 y 18 años y a uno de sus padres/guardianes legales a participar en un estudio sobre la salud y el bienestar de la juventud Latina que vivan en Pomona, Montclair, Upland, Ontario o Claremont.
  • ¿Con qué fin?
    • El objetivo del estudio es documentar y entender los efectos que el estrés y las dificultades que la comunidad Latina ha enfrentado en estos tiempos ha tenido en el bienestar y el desarrollo de los adolescentes Latinos así como las maneras en las que las familias Latinas han salido adelante a pesar de estas adversidades.
  • ¿En qué consiste?
    • Los adolescentes y padres/guardianes que quieran participar llenarán cuestionarios acerca de la salud y bienestar incluyendo la salud mental, los comportamientos riesgosos, el estrés, la discriminación, el apoyo social, la escuela, la cultura Latina, y la familia, entre otros.
    • Los adolescentes y los padres llenarán los cuestionarios separadamente. Toda la información es confidencial.
    • El estudio se puede completar en inglés o español.
    • El estudio se llevará a cabo 3 veces durante el próximo año y cada vez que participen se les compensará monetariamente.
  • ¿Cómo se llevará a cabo?
    • La primera visita será virtualmente empezando en marzo y durará 1-2 horas.
  • ¿Se me compensará?
    • A los participantes se les compensará $70 ($50 a los padres/guardianes y $20 a los adolescentes).
    • Tendrá la opción de escoger una gift card electronica, pago directo a su cuenta a través de Zelle, o cash.
  • ¿Para qué?
    • La información que se recaude es completamente confidencial y nos servirá para poder entender cómo apoyar el desarrollo saludable de los adolescentes Latinos mientras salimos de esta crisis pandémica.

Preguntas Frecuentes

  • Tengo más de un hijo/a que cumple los requisitos del estudio, ¿puede participar a más de uno?
    • Por favor escoja a uno de sus hijos/as que quiera participar. El/la mismo/a hijo/a tendrá que ser el que va a participar en esta y las etapas 2 y 3 del estudio el próximo año
  • ¿Por qué tengo que vivir en Pomona, Montclair, Upland, Ontario, o Claremont?
    • Porque si las restricciones del COVID-19 cambian y se nos permite invitar a personas de la comunidad al campus de Pomona College, vamos a invitar a nuestros participantes a completar la segunda y tercera etapa del estudio  en el laboratorio CENTRO localizado dentro de Pomona College
  • ¿Puede participar mi hijo/a si ya tiene 17 o 18 años y se va a ir a la universidad o se va a mudar fuera de casa dentro del próximo año?
    • Sí. Si su hijo/a ahorita vive con usted y tiene planes de irse a la universidad o vivir fuera de casa durante el próximo año, él/ella puede participar en este estudio.
    • Si su hijo/a ya no vive con usted, él/ella no puede participar en este estudio.

We are looking for participants to join our Latino Family Study!

  • Who can participate?
    • We are inviting Latino adolescents between 14 and 18 years old and one of their parents/legal guardians to participate in a study on the health and well-being of Latino/a/x youth living in Pomona, Montclair, Upland, Ontario, or Claremont.
  • What is the purpose?
    • To document and understand the effects of stress and other difficulties that the Latino community has suffered during these times on the well-being and development of Latino adolescents as well as the ways in which Latino families have thrived despite these adversities.
  • What will we do?
    • The adolescents and parents/guardians who wish to participate will complete questionnaires regarding health and well-being including mental health, risky behaviors, stress, discrimination, social support, schooling, Latino culture, and the family among others.
    • Adolescents and parents/guardians will complete questionnaires separately. All information is confidential
    • Participants will complete 3 visits over the next year and will be compensated every visit.
    • The first visit will take place virtually starting in March
  • Will we be compensated?
    • Participants will receive $70 ($50 for parents/guardianes, $20 for adolescents).
    • Participants may choose an electronic gift card, direct payment through zelle, or cash
  • What is the ultimate goal?
    • All information collected will remain absolutely confidential and will help us understand how we can better support the healthy development of Latino youth as we emerge from this pandemic crisis.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have more than one son/daughter who meet the study requirements, can more than one participate?
    • No. Please choose one and whomever you choose will participate in all 3 study phases over the next year
  • Why do participants have to live in Pomona, Montclair, Upland, Ontario, or Claremont?
    • Because if COVID-19 restrictions change and we are allowed to bring community members to Pomona College’s campus, we will invite our participants to complete phases 2 and 3 of the study at our lab which is located within Pomona College
  • Can my adolescent who is 17 or 18 years old and is planning to go to college or move out within the next year participate in the study?
    • Yes. If your adolescent lives with you now and plans to attend college or move out within the next year, they are still eligible to participate in the study.
    • If your adolescent does not live in your home right now, they are not eligible to participate in this study.
