The University of Michigan Linguistics Department invites you to apply to the Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS) program www.rackham.umich.edu/michhers. This all expenses paid program will bring talented undergraduate and MA students to Ann Arbor for a 2‐week workshop to help you prepare to apply to a PhD in Linguistics, so that you learn about opportunities and resources available for students at the University of Michigan, especially in Linguistics. The program is split between an in‐residence and a virtual component. You will meet with faculty and PhD students to talk about research in linguistics, and will have the opportunity to work on your own research project under the guidance of U‐M Linguistics faculty. The fellowship will also include a graduate application workshop and gatherings with faculty and current graduate students from Linguistics and other disciplines.

The application deadline is Monday, February 14, 2021.

Selected applicants will receive a $1,000 stipend for their participation in the program. Your round trip travel and university housing will also be paid by MICHHERS. To apply, go to www.rackham.umich.edu/michhers. See website for application materials that you should submit, including statements and two letters of recommendation.

This summer program will take place from June 6 to June 17, 2022. We seek rising seniors, bachelor’s degree holders, and M.A. students, particularly those from diverse cultural, economic, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds who are considering pursuing a Ph.D. in Linguistics. Application open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or non‐U.S. citizens with DACA.

Please contact rackmichhers@umich.edu if you have any questions about the MICHHERS program. If you would like more information about the Linguistics Department at the University of Michigan, go to: https://lsa.umich.edu/linguistics
