Summer Research
This past summer I was a research assistant for the computer science department at Pomona College through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP). I worked with Professor Chen on a project involving community-detection algorithms for complex networks. I looked at how replacing the modularity metric in the CNM and Louvain algorithms with the coverage metric affected the communities detected.
Part of our research will build off the summer research. We will continue to investigate how using other quality metrics in the algorithms affects the output communities. Additionally, we plan to test all variants on a larger test suite and collect quantitative data comparing the communities detected by each algorithm with each quality metric.
