Research in the Crane lab focuses on the enzymology and microbiology of sulfur-based and other forms of anaerobic respiration in hot subsurface, deep sea sediment and hot spring environments.
E.J. graduated from Saint Cloud State University with a B.S. in Biology, and from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Al Claiborne at Wake Forest University, and before coming to Pomona he was in the Chemistry Department at Salisbury University in Maryland.
