Students and I regularly pursue research all over California, especially in the Sierra Nevada, at several sites in the U.S., and Internationally (Canada, Sweden, Australia). You can get a sense of projects we do from the publications tab. In general we examine magma systems at a variety of scales, contact metamorphism and its consequences: metamorphic fluid flow, partial melting, ore formation, decarbonation. Students and I routinely use stable isotopes in our work, but the toolbox has grown to include bulk rock and mineral scale major and trace element studies and geochronology as a matter of routine.
