- Imaging action potentials in nerve cells and bundles
- Developing and modeling algorithms for high-speed thermoreflectance imaging
The optoelectronics group at Pomona College studies the device physics of a range of semiconductor and organic devices, including lasers, photonic integrated circuits, plasmonic devices and organic transistors. Our research increasingly focuses on questions related to sustainable energy, including the development of energy efficient lighting and next generation solar cells. To probe the internal physics of working optoelectronic devices, we have developed a sub-micron-resolution 2D and 3D thermal imaging technique. These thermal images can be used to identify electrical defects in solar cells, to map the current density in light emitting diodes, and to probe the internal optical power distribution in a photonic circuit.
